Patricia Ramírez

DAILY LIFE Psychologist

Patricia Ramírez, also known as @patri_psicologa, is a psychologist, writer, lecturer, and communicator in different media. From her clinic, she provides national and international coverage with a clear goal in mind: to improve people’s lives. Patricia is one of the most influential psychologists in Spain, and has been awarded the Prize of the Official College of Psychologists for the best social media psychologist. A graduate in Psychology with a PhD in the Department of Personality, Evaluation and Psychological Treatment, Patricia is a regular lecturer on topics relating to willpower, teamwork and the capacity for change. Perhaps you didn’t know that Patri is a UIB alumnus.

Quan Zhou

INTERCULTURAL AUTHOR AND SPEAKEr

Born in Algeciras, Quan is an author, illustrator, graphic novelist and digital product designer (UX). She studied in Madrid and graduated in England. She has published cartoons in the digital version of El País and collaborated in the Radio 3 programme “Hoy empieza todo”. In 2015, she published her first graphic novel, “Gazpacho Agridulce” – a Chinese-Andalusian autobiography-. and in 2018 she published “El gran libro de los niños extraordinarios”, with Nuria Labari. Quan has given presentations on racism and identity in Spain, the USA, Sweden and China. Incidentally, Quan loves siesta and hates celery. Her Instagram account is @gazpachoagridulce.

Boni Martínez

Expert in social entrepreneurship

Boni is an economist, a theologian and the father of a large family. He’s also an expert in social entrepreneurship and strategic management for social initiative entities. He began his professional career as a secondary school teacher and opened a successful Mallorcan restaurant in Barcelona. For 14 years he has been the director of an organization dedicated to the care of people with functional diversity, creating a company that has received several awards in the field of sustainable and socially responsible tourism. He is currently one of the managers of El Temple, a reference centre in the Balearic Islands for the protection and care of minors, and also carries out consultancy work for social entities. He has been a volunteer and missionary alongside his wife. He likes singing, cooking and sailing, in that order. It can be said that Boni was a cook before he became a friar.

Line Hadsbjerg

author, producer and environmental activist

Line is a documentary author and producer whose work has been published internationally. She has been awarded several prestigious film festival awards. She focuses on humanitarian issues, including the situation of refugees, the rights of women, children and education. Line is the founder of the Cleanwave Foundation, which fights for the regeneration of the Mediterranean.

Alejandra Araya

President of vianants en lluita

Alejandra has a degree in Political Science and Sociology. She devotes her free time to joining forces to ensure that pedestrians “make great strides”, have a voice in public institutions and that everyone’s rights are respected. Her motto is “let’s talk less and do more”.

Albert Flexas

RESEARcher and psychology lecturer

Albert holds a PhD in Human Cognition and Evolution from the UIB. His research focuses on understanding the human capacity to appreciate beauty and to distinguish between right and wrong. His main works delve into the biological bases of the processes of aesthetic appreciation (neuroaesthetics) and moral cognition (neuroethics), and have been published in prestigious scientific journals. At the same time, Albert is a scriptwriter and audiovisual producer at Mallorca Creativa, which he helped to found. Some of his short films have won awards at international film festivals and have been screened in cities as diverse as London, Zagreb, Hong Kong, Singapore and Los Angeles.

Mar Leza

BIologist, communicator and lecturer

Mar holds a PhD in Biology from the University of the Balearic Islands. She is a contract lecturer and Head of Studies of the Degree in Food and Agriculture Engineering and the Rural Environment at the UIB, where she also teaches. She is currently conducting research on the Asian hornet (vespa velutina), an invasive and predatory species that preys on honey bees, and is the coordinator of the Velutina Task Force, where she worked on the conception and development of the Vespapp platform, designed to detect and control the Asian wasp. As a science communicator and an advocate for equality, Mar uses different media to raise awareness about the major role that women and girls play in science.
